My PCOS Experience

I have diagnosis of having PCOS condition since high school that being twenty years ago here are few notes I left for myself about this condition I have with it's symptoms causing possible different illnesses if not treated properly such as diabetes.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome as it's full name sounds scary as that is what I thought when I got this diagnosis at high school.

Simple sayed menstrual cycles skips month or two while it's more complicated to explain how part of my brain does not give the signal to my kidney's adrenal gland and later ovaries to produce an egg cell each month as that is a normal 28 days cycle due to lack of estrogen (female hormones) or overdue of androgen (male hormones).

Besides skipping monthly cycles there are few other symptoms PCOS has:

- ovaries having 'honey bee chest part' look on the ultrasound being covered in small cysts on one part or entire ovary as the egg cell stays inside an ovary where it's produced instead of continuing it's journey to the uterus,

- hirsutism, it means more hair on woman's body than usual being named Mediterranean type of body as of that,

- gaining weight easily and especially at parts you create muscles with regular workout once you stop exercising for a while,

- allergies to any milk products,

- oily skin on your face T zone which can cause acne if you do not do your evening and morning face care routine regularly and sometimes acne can spread on your upper chest and back too in severe cases,

- sugar cravings, especially dangerous as women having PCOS are prone of getting diabetes or in most cases pregnancy type of diabetes,

- hair problems can appear during stressful periods while most women have thin hair that needs a perfect hair mask for it to be healthy,

- dark or thick skin patches on your knees and elbows.

I prefer using tea along therapy I had for three years using simple Bayer's contraceptive pills 'Diane 35' to regulate my menstrual period monthly and take care of other symptoms such as dizziness and being prone to extra oily skin on my face T zone while the rest of my skin got extra dry.

I've stopped using 'Diane 35' once my small veins on my legs started to be more visible as there were cases of thrombosis among women who use contraceptive pills.

Before 'Diane 35' I was prescribed 'Cycloproginova' medicine for three months and Primolut Nor to 'jump up the system' by causing a cycle artificially with 'Cycloproginova' to be taken daily after the 'system' starts working.

When you get your period you start using daily contraceptive to keep your estrogen levels where on the level they are supposed to be.

Fun things about having PCOS are:

- you will get to know you are pregnant far along pregnancy, which is not fun when we think about nutrients baby fetus needs early on,

- there is possibility of having twins, which is not as fun when thinking about doubling your responsibility immediately.

Not so fun thing about PCOS is the infertility it can cause if not treating this condition as it's not a disease which can spread.

I prefer a tea mixture of lady's mantle (Alchemilla Vulgaris), Yarrow (Achillea Millefolium) and Mary gold (Calendula Officinalis).

Four cups of this mixture each day is great as a add to proper medicine or as it's replacement in not so severe cases of PCOS.

Thankfully today if a couple does not conceive with it's offspring after two years government has free in vitro fertilization program for those women with this or similar conditions or diseases.

After twenty years I've learned that natural medicine is great but it can not go without proper visits to your gynecologist and hormones specialists and that contraceptive pills are the most simple way to keep it in check besides mandatory workouts until as a couple I decide to have children of my own thinking about my biological clock to turning 35 this year.

Do you know anyone with PCOS as every 5th woman has this condition and if you do how do you manage all it's symptoms?
